Pyrethrum is a crop that is grown for extraction of pyrethrins, which is used in formulation of biopesticides that are used in control of insect pests. PPCK’s mandate is broad, its mandate of to produce and supply high quality pyrethrum planting materials; purchase dry flowers from growers & process and market value added products and provide technical & scientific services and participation in commercially viable activities of pyrethrum production has been realized in a limited manner over its lifetime. It is in line with this mandate that the department is tasked with the expansion of acreage under pyrethrum , which is achieved through mobilizing growers to establish the crop, undertake good agronomic practices and deliver dried flowers for processing. Through extension, activities are undertaken in the 19 pyrethrum counties in Kenya, in collaboration with both government levels
